Thanksgiving weekend camping trip
We went camping last weekend at Lynches River County Park, over my Thanksgiving break. It got really cold (down to freezing both nights!) but we stayed warm and had fun. I think the dogs did, too. Ginger discovered two tiny kittens sequestered in a large woodpile as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed watching a wild mama cat sneak in and out, caring for them, all weekend. Thanks to the efforts of the park rangers, there was plenty of free firewood cut and stacked for any campers to use. We were able to keep a big fire going the whole time we were there. We saw four shooting stars. We had lots of delicious camp meals.
All in all, it was a nice time.

I was feeling bad for kitties until I remembered--SOUTH Carolina. So glad you had a good time.

Ah- the inside of the tent picture made me think I might want to go camping again sometime. Lovely.

There is a nature center, campgrounds, and just outside the park, private homes. Mama cat looked healthy and reasonably well fed. And she seems to be taking good care of her babies.
One of those tiny kittens hissed at me!
We have a queen size air mattress which makes it comfy!

It was cold, but they had a devoted mama looking out for them. They seemed bright-eyed and healthy!
I last went proper camping back in around 1970. I'd chosen a beautiful coastal spot. A helicopter soon hovered over us, then an Army car arrived and told us to go. I ended up sleeping in the car. Your trip looks much more fun!

Aaaaw those kittens... I hope they survive until adulthood and aren't found by a fox or other predator small enough to enter their little home.
Camp fire meals - I like the sound of that!

Sounds and looks wonderful... except for the cold. I only went camping in summer!
That looks really fun! I'm not much of a camper but even I might enjoy that fire. Hopefully those kitties will be OK in that woodpile!
Thanks for sharing this camping report Jennifer. Even though the nights were cold it didn't rain which is a big bonus. Did Gregg sing along to his ukulele - "Home home on the range..."? The dogs would have been howling!
Oh good I worry about all my wild animals that live around my home.
I try not to impose myself on them but I look out for them.
Is that the campfire favorite Jiffy Pop I see on your fire !

Gregg was so worried about those kittens the first afternoon! Once we finally saw there was a mama cat taking care of them he was able to relax and enjoy the trip. :)
Oh no! I wonder why they chased you away? Sleeping in the car? That sucks!
I'll do a post one of these days on things we make to eat around the campfire. I love campsite cooking!
Building big fires is one of the best parts!!!!
It's too hot and there are too many mosquitoes and snakes to camp in the summer around here!
There's so much free firewood stacked up that you can have a big roaring fire all night long if you want to. The free wood is one of the reasons we usually end up camping at Lynches River Park!
Haha. Gregg is no singer, but he used to be a professional drummer!
