Plenty of reason to be happy....

My sweet little niece at her birthday party...
The first taste of birthday cake was a hit!

A rainbow appeared above our house last night. The colors were impossible to capture with my phone camera. It was much brighter and more colorful than it seems in this picture.

One of my orchids actually rebloomed for me. I found this flower early this morning.
Despite all these good things, I can't seem to shake this low level sadness I'm feeling. Is it my husband's continuing health concerns, the political situation, the advent of blazing hot summer temperatures (and our a/c breaking already.....a repairman is coming tomorrow), work stress, or all of the above? I don't know. It is what it is, I suppose.

  1. Quite honestly, no matter how profound our blessings and our gratefulness for them, it is impossible not to be affected by what which surrounds us whether the personal or the global. We are humans and it is part of our evolved reasoning to always be as aware of that which is around us as possible and to be able to make decisions based on those observations. Otherwise, we would not have lasted as long as we have.
That little girl is pure joy.

    1. All very wise observations. And of course you're right.

  2. Ms. Moon is right; no matter how much we have in our own lives to be grateful for or happy about, there will always be other things going on in either our or other people's lives that make us sad or angry.
All the more it is important for our mental (and probably physical) health to cherish those happy times as best we can.
Carsen won't remember her first birthday as she grows up, but you and her parents will, and she'll have your memories and photos of the event to treasure.

    1. I took a ton of pictures and even a video of everyone singing Happy Birthday.

  3. Stress is seldom about just one thing, but rather a ball of worrisome things that we have little control over. I hope some good news and good things come your way soon, Jennifer.

  4. Life is never always ice cream and cake... sometimes all you get are dried figs. Everything changes.

  5. Sometimes sadness rolls over me and I can't explain where it comes from. Usually it is a combination of things. A good pick me up would be to look at that beautiful child with the icing all over her mouth. That picture is precious.

    1. I've been super busy, what with my Spanish class and book clubs and etc but I feel kind of disconnected from it all. Thanks Anne Marie.

I hope your husband's health issues are resolved, sooner than later. That may life a world of gloom.

  8. If I was in Florence right now I would give you a big hug...with Gregg's permission of course... and then I'd take you down to "The Wooden Nickel" for a few beers and a good chinwag.

    1. Book your flight and let's make it happen! Although Southern Hops would be a better choice than the Wooden Nickle. Thank you YP.

  9. Stress and anxiety often rob us of joy. Yes, it is what it is. This is why it is so important to truly enjoy the moments of happiness that come our way.

  10. So sorry for what you’re feeling. I’m in the same place. The rainbow and gorgeous niece give at least a momentary uplift.

  11. It is what it is, indeed. I'm sure when you get some answers about Gregg that will help a lot -- the not knowing has got to be hard. Just remember, summer vacation is right around the corner!
