I'm still sick. I thought by this point in the weekend I'd feel better, but this cold is fierce and refusing to let up. So in lieu of a real post, here are a couple of pictures and random tidbits.
When I got home from work Friday afternoon this creature was hanging out in our front yard. It was only a couple of weeks ago that Gregg found a turtle just like this one (maybe the same one) in our driveway and carried him back across the street to the ditch that leads down into the creek. I did the same thing in hopes that it would save it from getting squashed by a car if he headed back across the street on his own. It was about the size of a dinner plate and surprisingly heavy. See him peeking out at me? Pond sliders like this are common sights this time of year.
One of my orchids is reblooming. This is the first time I've ever had one to rebloom. It sure is pretty!
This is my latest Philippa Gregory read. I'm tearing through these novels about those wacky Tudors and Yorks during the Wars of the Roses. It's just like Game of Thrones, only without dragons. Great fun.
My last week of school before the summer break starts tomorrow! Here's hoping I'm over this damn virus by the time Friday gets here.
hang in there, school's almost over! that orchid is loverly. and you did a good deed relocating the cute visitor.
ReplyDeleteWe wonder if it's the same turtle as last time. He seems to like our yard!
DeleteLord, that must be a nasty virus. But yes- get it over with before vacation starts!
ReplyDeleteWe find a lot of tortoises this time of year too- they're mating and need to get from one place to another. They are determined albeit slow, aren't they?
I went through such a huge Philippa Gregory phase. I always listen to the audio versions. The woman who narrates them is perfect for the job! I love those books. It was not easy being a royal back in those days, was it? Especially if you were a woman. And more precisely- if you were married to Henry VIII.
I have two orchids that I can't even remember how I got. Maybe when my mother died I took hers? Whatever, it's been forever ago and I've always said I don't kill orchids but I sure can't make them bloom but right now, one of my two is blooming beautifully and the other one has a bud stalk. Is that what you call it? I have no idea. Sort of a magical gift, isn't it?
This IS a nasty virus! It refused to let up and the least amount of physical effort makes me break out in a sweat. Lots of congestion and sneezing, too. Ugh.
DeleteI'm reading about the women before Henry VIII's time but I'm sure I'll work my way down to his wives. Life was really hard for the royal women in those days!
My friend told me not to cut the stem after the blooms die. It works for hers so I will try it.
ReplyDeleteHope your feeling better soon.
parsnip x
I'll try that, Gayle, and thanks for the tip. I'm doing my best to flush this illness from my system with lots of fluids and hot showers....hopefully it will be gone soon.
DeleteI always love it when I find turtles in my yard. We seem to have them every year as they cross our yard to the stream in our woods.
ReplyDeleteI hope your cold gets better, Jennifer, and you start off your summer healthy and happy.
A few years back we found a big turtle in the road. They are not native to France, so how it got there we have no idea. Get well soon. x
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame having to go through your final week at school before the summer break with that nasty cold still clinging to you - I am sure there are many activities you'd normally enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, the turtle(s) won't make it a habit to cross the street; too dangerous for them.
Hope you feel better! Any stress??? I had so many orchids. The only one that ever bloomed ... and bloomed year-round... was in my office at work which at the time had no windows and only fluorescent light! All the perfectly situated ones at home. Perfect light. Appropriate feedings at the appropriate times of year... never bloomed a second time!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you are feeling better. Rest if you can. I HATE being sick.
ReplyDeleteI too hope you are better by the time I read this.
ReplyDeleteTurtles are great! living close to the Susquehanna, with tributaries like veins, we have lots of them. They show up in the darnedest places some times.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the cold is not the result of a curse or hex put on you by The Grumpies.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the beautiful orchid! I always feel such a sense of accomplishment when one of ours re-blooms, even though they seem to prosper in a state of benign neglect.
