Not again!

Our central ac unit quit working again last night. Of course this would happen during the weekend when it's impossible to get anyone out. And who knows how long it will take to get our home warranty company to send someone out to repair it.

We have a portable ac unit we bought several years ago for our dogs when they lived in the garage at the old house. We're thankful to have it today. The temperature is supposed to reach 98F today with a heat index of 108F. Without this backup unit we'd be forced to leave home in this heat. As it is, we can only cool one room with the portable. I won't complain about that, though. It could be so much worse!

Hopefully we can make the company that repaired our ac in May to come back and make this right. The fix should have lasted through one summer, at least. I'm about ready to raid our savings and just replace the unit altogether and to hell with the cost. South Carolina in July is no place to have a continually breaking air conditioner!

    1. It's been upsetting to me all out of proportion to what the situation warrants. It's not just the heat, but the dread of all the phone calls and hassle I'm getting ready to endure to get it fixed.

  2. Oh no! I hope they can fix it tomorrow.

    1. It's dangerously hot and humid here right now. We are under a "heat advisory" which basically means we're being warned of heat related illnesses and emergencies.

  4. OMB! THAT'S HORRIBLE! you need a permanent fix stat; you have to get thru august yet. and the home warranty company should pay for it.

    1. At this point, if I have to pay for another $75 service call fee I'll happily do if it they'll just get someone out here right away. This heat wave isn't going anywhere.

  6. Keeping that backup was smart! so many people who get A/C throw those units away. Biting the bullet can be painful, but usually it's for the best.

    1. While our home warranty is still active (through November) we're trying to use it to get our money's worth out of it. I hate the thought of what a new unit will do to our savings!

  8. As long as you have the warranty, you should be OK. I hope that you can get someone quickly. I would mention your husband’s health issues. The HVAC company that I worked for always put people with health problems on the top of the list. You should, though, plan for next year. You will be spending money on an old unit that is only going to keep breaking down. You can get a new A/C unit and make monthly payments instead of one lump sum.

  9. Crazy temperatures forecast for us this coming week. No ac units here; just open (or closed) windows. We'll survive!

  10. We are set to be over 100 degrees in the UK this week, but we are lucky. Nobody has any A.C. to break down, so we do not fear it.

    1. Just noticed Cro's similar comment. I think it is only Spain which has domestic A.C. as a matter of course.

    2. 100 degree days aren't unusual here, though. We have 4 months of high temperatures and high humidity. I'll bet that if Temps like that were the norm and not the exception, you would all have a/c. The ongoing heat here is actually dangerous, not just uncomfortable.

    2. And they just called....the repairman will be out tomorrow in the afternoon. If I were a praying woman I'd pray that he won't need to order any parts so that the repair can be done tomorrow!

  12. Good luck with the AC repairs. It has been so hot here in central VA. I helped my daughter move yesterday. It was 102. By the end of the day I was zapped. I seriously don't know how people lived in the south in the days before AC.

  13. No! No! No! You already waited so long for the repair. This will not stand.
