And so the crud continues!

Hi! Are you having a good week? I hope someone is, because my last week and the start of this one have been less than stellar. It could be worse, of course, so I'm not really complaining....too much. :)

Gregg is still sick and I'm almost positive he's had the flu. He fit all the criteria on the checklist I found that compared flu symptoms to coronavirus. He's definitely better (no longer running fevers, at least) but he's feeling exhausted and totally wiped out, which is yet another hallmark of the flu. I had a flu shot last October so hopefully I won't be catching it from him, if that's what it is. So far I feel fine. Except.....

I had dental work done exactly a week ago. Two fillings, one of them deep, and the deep one was prepared for a crown. I have a temporary crown on it right now. Since then I've had a slight but persistent ache in my jaw that has required me to take Motrin round the clock. The first few days, we decided to wait and see if it went away, but a week on and it's still hurting. I have to go back to the dentist in the morning before work to let him have a look at things. I hope I don't need a root canal! That always seems to happen if I get a crown. The work I've had done on these two teeth so far is costing me a small fortune despite having good dental insurance. I've already spent $900 out of pocket and that will go up by at least another $500 if I have to have the root canal. WHY does dental work have to cost so damn much?!!!! It's outrageous, is what it is!

Now it's looking like Coronavirus is going to be a big deal. We're actually a little worried about it. We haven't gone crazy stocking up, but we're reasonably prepared to stay home for a while if we must. We still have a few things to get sorted--extra prescription medications, extra dog food, stuff like that--but otherwise I think we can manage to self quarantine if it comes to that. I hope it doesn't. For the time being we're keeping an eye on daily news reports, washing our hands really well, and making plans in case things go south. That's all we can do.

And for your dark-humor laugh of the day:

  1. Well, a sense of humor is imperative in times like this. So thank-you for that.
I REALLY hope that you don't need a root canal. Yes. Dental work is ridiculously expensive. I do not understand it. Keep us posted.
And I hope that Gregg recovers fully soon. I'm still dragging about and Mr. Moon got diagnosed with a sinus infection as a result of his flu. Of course, he gets a sinus infection almost yearly so we are not surprised. He started antibiotics today.
Hang in there, honey. It's all you can do.

  3. I live in King County WA. The governor just put us all on lock down. We can still go to the store. But if push comes to shove, I will have Fred's or Wally's deliver things to my gate.

  4. I hope you sort your tooth very soon. Tooth aches are the worst.

  5. I do hope your tooth gets better. I can sympathize with you as I have so many crowns I've lost count and half of those were root canal teeth. It's a pain and an expense. We had dental insurance until we retired. I've had so much dental work this past year that I'm having to make payments and I hate that.

I sure hope Greg is doing better. When Tom had the flu last month it took him forever to get over it. I hope you stay well too. Are the schools closed in your area? I keep hearing of more schools closing due to this flu. Will you still have to go to work if they do close?

  6. i dont know if you could et hold of Valerian but it can help settle a tooth, deep fillings can cause pain for a while without leading to root canal.

covid-19 does seem to be making some very big waves, i think it's good for everyone to have a plan

  7. I think I've only had proper Flu' once, and it was very nasty. Yes, I think we're all going to have to take COVID-19 very seriously. I've just been listening to Trump 'reading' his statement. Keep washing those hands.

  8. Since I have a number of autoimmune health problems my family always washes their hands when coming in the house and we wipe our phones if we have been out and about. Because I am allergic to cats I never pet a cat and then touch my eyes or my face. It is a way of life for me.
I need to check up on my meds !
Happy to know Gregg is feeling somewhat better. Hope you are feeling well.

  9. Poor Gregg! He is getting better, but that feeling totally wiped out will most likely stay with him for a while, and don't we all hate it when we're not able to do the things we want (or have) to do, at our usual speed?
More and more now in my working and private environment, I am dealing with people who have either been asked to stay home or put themselves in quarantine. One of my customers was in Rome in February; back then, it was not among the risk areas, but now all of Italy is declared a risk zone, and he wisely decided to work from home until the recommended 14 days since his return from Rome have passed.
The conductor of O.K.'s village band has been to Alsace (France, less than 20 km away from the village) on the weekend for a concert. He also teaches music in schools and has been asked not to come to school until it can be confirmed that he does not have the virus.
It's important that we all don't lose our humour, so thank you for that picture at the end!

  10. Hope Greg is completely recovered soon. I’ve already had Lyme. It wasn’t pleasant. Maybe it goes better with Corona. Good luck with your mouth!

  11. Yeah, it's going to be a big deal. By the time the election rolls around Daffy Duck could be the human stain in the White House.

  13. WHY does dental work have to cost so damn much?!!!!
ANSWER: So that dentists can live in wealth and luxury. Regularly replacing their cars and paying for guys to maintain their swimming pools. They also need ponies for their daughters and top of the range mountain bikes for their sons. After all, nobody can dispute that they are very gifted highly-trained brainboxes without whom civilisation would collapse. In my view they should charge far more than they do. We lesser mortals are not worthy.

  14. Well, I'm glad Gregg is better, at least. We haven't stocked up on much here, but I'm beginning to think we should make more of an effort. And believe me, having suffered through a couple of years of discomfort with one of my own teeth, I can sympathize on the dentistry situation! Look at it this way -- once it's done, you'll feel much better. Keep an eye on the end game. Right?

  15. I'm glad Gregg is recovering. I wonder how long that wiped out feeling will last. I'm sorry about the dental work you need. I'm still paying for the mass on my colon last year.

    Love,
    Janie
