Second week of June

The full "Strawberry Moon" rising over my neighborhood Wednesday night.

Another weekend is almost at an end. Sundays have lost some of their depressing feel now that we've been at home for so many weeks. The days all just seem to run together lately.

My husband is going back to work full time this coming week. I'm really uneasy about it. Positive Covid-19 cases are rising at a higher rate than ever in this state, but at some point I guess we have to try to resume a more normal life (with new precautions). After all, the virus isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I'm just going to have to deal with my anxiety about it all and hope for the best. Gregg promised me he'll be careful--standing several feet away from others, trying to avoid touching his face, frequent handwashing. Aside from his one risk factor, he's in good health, and if he should get sick he is assured of getting the very best care possible. The friend that undoubtedly saved his life when he had cancer is the very best pulmonologist in this area, and I know that he would do everything in his power to help if we needed him. So that's some comfort, too.

Our 14th wedding anniversary is coming up next week, on Friday. Since Fridays are one of Gregg's normal days off, we'll be able to spend it together, at least. Obviously with the virus out there we won't be going anywhere to celebrate. I'm hoping that next year we can rent a cottage somewhere on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We haven't been up there in years and years, since before we were married. It's beautiful and we've been wanting to go back and have a vacation there again. Maybe next year we can manage it.

The weather here continues to be nice. It's been humid and we've had lots of rain, but the pounding heat we usually have by now hasn't really shown up. The highs this coming week don't even hit 90F. Gardenias and magnolia flowers are blooming all around the neighborhood. Our Crepe Myrtle trees are just beginning to flower, too. It's a nice time of year (when it isn't too hot).

What's this time of year like where you live? Are you getting back to "normal" yet or are you still staying at home and trying to avoid Coronavirus? How is your summer going so far?

  3. 14 years is nothing to sneeze at!!!!

Well I'm used to being home now, and the weather has been glorious with exception to a few thunderstorms last week. I still have no word on a return yet to work. I do know when we allow people back in the store... it's going to be extremely limited. Being in a department store will be a challenge to keep germ free. So far when they reopen I'm hearing it will be by appointment only, and then after that, a limited number of people in the door. No fitting rooms, and reduced hours. I think it may be fall till were all back in force and running back to normal. In my visual department were generally quite in summer, so don't see a return before September. Of course we just went to our first phase of reopen on Friday. And I'm hearing in some places it did not go well. People had no self control and just had to get out, places ignored guidelines, places to crowded. I suspect we too will now being seeing cases and deaths rising again. All the hard work for nothing. I myself will stay home and will only be in the presence of 5 people or fewer. I will have bad anxiety if I have to go to a restaurant or somewhere tight quarters. And I worry about my mouth insulting someone.

I also feel bad about the poor environment. I guess the results we saw will go right out the window now.

It's about the same here. Not evil hot yet but sometimes evil muggy. Raining this weekend which is a nice, cooling relief.
Happy anniversary, sweet Jennifer! May y'all have many, many more. For now- stay safe.

  5. The moonrise is wonderful! You live in a beautiful neighborhood. I will keep your husband in my thoughts as he returns to work. I know you are both sensible and cautious and he will take all precautions but I also know it is more than just a little unnerving. An early Happy Anniversary to you both!

  6. Cold, wet and windy in the UK at the moment, not summer-like at all. Very quiet in our rural village and apart from the occasional bicycle ride I'm staying close to home. I don't know when we will see our youngest daughter, it was October last year when she was last here.

  7. Summer has come quickly as the last frost that killed my tomatoes was about a month ago. Now our highs are in the upper 80's and the gnats are being very bothersome.

I dont go back to work till July 6 because of CV-19, but it feels like my wife and I are starting to tempt fate a little lately by getting out more, still with masks and hand sanitizer though.

    Happy anniversary and stay safe.

  10. Here in California we are beginning to open up, which is likely true in every state. Each county is opening at its own pace. Something horrible happened in my county yesterday; an ambush was set and a young deputy sheriff was murdered. Our county is generally a peaceful place. I am hoping the rest of June will bring joy back to all of us. I hope Gregg stays healthy as he returns to work!

  12. We are having sunny, cool days and cold nights. It is the start of winter but we are already having winter average temperatures so it probably wont get much colder. There's nothing to complain about.

Try not to worry about Gregg, from what you say he is in good health and I think his general good health means more than his history.

Congrats on your anniversary! a 15th away somewhere nice sounds perfect

  13. Here in SE England it feels as if we have already had summer as far as the weather goes. We had 2 months Feb/March approx with hardly any rain. I know this as I was looking after my friend's garden next door as they were stuck in New Zealand in lockdown and I had a lot of watering to do! Then we had several weeks of much too hot for me.....up in the mid 20s( about 77F for you and I know you don't class that as hot!!) some days and again no rain. Now we have had several days of quite chilly.....it is around 10c this morning and grey skies. Terrific thunderstorm a couple of night ago. My life since March has been walking the dog, cooking meals for myself and OH and recently been seeing one of my sons and the little grandson ( 2 and a bit) for a distanced walk. My OH goes every morning to a small Tesco store nearby and gets the food we need for the next day or so. Not planning to do anything different for quite some time. I used to get the older grandkids from school twice a week , and had a shift on the till at the local Oxfam book store, but not going back to that yet! Hope that Greg stays safe. I feel that hand washing is the key to keeping well. What a lovely job he has......I have kept fish for many years. Started off with a tropical tank that my brother bought me for my 40th birthday, but now have a 3ft cold water tank that has 5 fan tail type goldfish in it.

  14. The British spring was the best on record - drier, sunnier and warmer than all the rest. Ironically, summer has started with rain and a chill in the air. I guess there does come a point where the COVID nettle has to be grasped as societies attempt to restart their economies and get back to some kind of normality. We cannot stall forever. Take care Gregg!

    1. Our spring was pretty nice, too. As to C-19, our state is suddenly exploding with new cases--a result of opening back up too soon, in my opinion. I'm pretty worried, but life has to go on.

  15. Yay for 14 years of marriage, you dream couple, you!
I am sure Gregg will be as cautious as is necessary, and it will go well. Our leading virologists have recently stated that they now see good ventilation (if possible: work/practice/train/meet outdoors) as much more important than the frequent use of disinfectant on surfaces, and even more important than frequent handwashing.
