I got a text yesterday afternoon from one of my neighbors letting me know that several cars in our neighborhood had been broken into the night before. Some items had been stolen, too.
As soon as I got home from work I texted more neighbors (the two on either side of us) alerting them to the situation. One is an 80 year old widow and the other is a middle aged single woman who does pet sitting/shelter dog fostering out of her home.
Both women were alarmed since they live alone, but we all agreed to look out for each other and to be alert to any suspicious activity.
Heather, the dog foster lady, texted me later in the evening to tell me she was still pretty nervous. She sent along a picture of a note she taped to her car's driver side window. We had a good chuckle over it.

"Also, you are being recorded", HA!
I love it!!!!!!!
Hahahaha! Your neighbor sounds like a keeper.
Smart lady!
Wow! She's not messing around! We have a 40+ pound "pit bull" (or pit bull relative) but the worst she'd do to an intruder is lick him to death.
HELL YEAH!
Your neighbor is going for it ! Good For her !
Signs were put up on small shops along the BLM protest in Tucson that they were owned by women, small business, sported the protest but many were broken into anyway I hope this works for her.
This is usually kids look for quick cash items.
I love your neighbor and her feisty spirit. As an older American flag says "Don't Tread on Me." Her note presumes the vandals can read!
Well. That is certainly being proactive!
Perhaps you should stick a note on your car Jennifer. "The owner of this vehicle is an Olympic judo champion with a temper like a tornado plus she like to sing Britney Spears songs! BE WARNED!" Seriously though, do not leave anything on view in your car.
Now that is a note which would have had me walking past the car. Quickly.
And thank you for alerting your neighbours. I hope all of you remained safe and none of your belongings were taken.
"Also, you are being recorded." The clincher!
I loved that part! haha!
Me toooooo! :)
She's actually turning out to be a fantastic neighbor! Kind, helpful, and she loves and fosters dogs in need. We're lucky she bought the house next door!
I think she's nervous, living alone. She said she was so glad to have us next door.
Sweet Olga! A big dog that can bark loud is enough of a deterrent to keep most criminals away, I think.
YES!
We think this is probably teenagers. Nothing seems to be actually broken and only some small items (like a change purse) have been stolen.
That's our theory, too. I hope that's all it is!
She's feisty, but she's also very kind and generous. I said the same thing as you about hoping they could read!
It honestly made us laugh, especially early this morning when we went out to walk George and saw the note taped to the car window! :)
We never leave anything of value in either of our cars, and my car is safely inside our garage. Gregg has a 25 year old Ford Ranger work truck that's so old and beat up I doubt anyone would bother to look inside it!
The word apparently got around quickly because last night our whole neighborhood was lit up porch/patio/yard lights left on. :)
I know, right?! Haha. We really like Heather. Gregg told me recently that she told him that her best friends are an interracial gay couple....that was the clincher when we decided she's "good people"!
What if they can't read?
The last line was the best.
That's a great note. Some cars in our neighborhood have been broken into. Their owners left them unlocked. So now we're all careful to lock our car doors. I think it was kids looking for change and CDs.
Love,
Janie
A dog, a gun, and a CCTV camera should do the trick. It's best to be prepared.
That sounds hopeful. I think Gud Dug barking will be helpful, when my Gud Dugs bark they sound like The Hounds of The Baskervilles.
Two big dogs AND a .38. Does she get many visitors?
Wouldn't be possible over here - the police would come to question the person who has put up the note about owning a weapon AND a potentially aggressive type of dog, running a video camera and so on and so forth.
Hopefully, the combined effort in your neighbourhood has put an end to the breaking in!
What a great note. It reminds me of the sign that's quite common in the UK - an image of an alsatian, with the caption "Break In - Make My Day".
Great note! I don't know if I could use Murphy as guard dog. He's afraid of his own shadow!
It is always good to be proactive. She did an excellent job.
Good for her being proactive and giving fair Warning to Thieves about the risk they take by invading her property. It is always alarming when Criminals trawl our neighborhoods, we've had episodes here since the Pandemic, never had them before and this was always crime free and why we moved here to this area. In our case the long time neighbors identified the culprit as being an Adult Son of some older people within the community who had come to live with them during the Pandemic, so we alerted the Authorities and neighbors gave the recorded videos of him messing with people's vehicles and personal property. We're hopeful they arrested him, we have had no more incidents at least, perhaps his Parents kicked him out if they found out he's victimizing their neighbors. Nothing makes a Family unwelcome quite like having a Problem Individual related to you who now is shitting where they eat.
