Well, here we are. Still waiting.

What a day. I've had a pint bottle of Corona Extra beer (an impulse buy at the convenience store the other day when I knew I was running low on wine--this is no time to be without alcohol) so I'm feeling a little extra....vehement....in what I want to say. Rather than type out the expletive laden rant expounding on what this election has been like in general and the shittiness of today in particular, I'll try to restrain myself and not write something here that will embarrass me tomorrow.

But damn, y'all. It's after 6pm the day after this horrid election and we still don't know for sure who the winner will be. That just seems unfair. Insult added to injury.

It's looking more and more likely that Biden may eke out a victory, but that's bringing me very little joy or hope at the moment. It's undeniable that Trump still has way, way, more support than I thought was even possible. It's so disappointing. And even if Biden wins, if the Senate remains a Republican majority then the loathsome Mitch McConnell will make sure that he's not able to accomplish one single damn thing for at least the next two years. I'm disgusted that Mitch McC. and equally loathsome Lindsey Graham weren't given their walking papers.

I just checked the latest electoral college numbers and it looks like Biden is at 264....only 6 more to go. What a ridiculous system.

I'll check back in tomorrow morning. Let's hope we have an answer for sure by then. I'm ready for this election to be over!

How are you holding up?

  1. I woke up at 1:30 AM this morning and checked my phone. The first word out of my mouth, "shit." Trump looked as if he was leading. I texted Michael and said simply on word, "shit." But as the day progressed today, things have looked up some. But it won't be a blue wave like I was hoping. The way we elect presidents is plain stupid. Let's hope and pray Biden wins. He won't have an easy job healing the nation, but maybe he can.

    1. Let's do our best to be patient and see how it all plays out. I'm feeling more hopeful today than I have in awhile.

  2. By the grace of all the gods and vodka and love and support from my family and dearest ones, I am okay. Holding onto your hand...

  3. I'm ready for it to all be over too. However, I'm thinking that whomever emerges as the victor, there will still be unrest and an absence of peaceful unity in the country.

    1. Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! I'm afraid you're right about unrest but we all have to keep fighting the good fight and keep our chins up. I have to believe that good will eventually prevail.

  4. I am stressed. I was afraid to get out of bed this morning for fear of what the counts could be. I am discouraged and depressed that the counts are so close, that so many people believe like that man. I just want our country to heal.

    1. I was far more depressed yesterday. Today I'm cautiously hopeful and I feel a little better. Hang in there a little longer. We all need to stick together, and we'll get through this no matter what happens.

  5. I awoke this morning in a country of which i am unfamiliar. Where are we? What is this? Dictatorship? A Coup?

  6. And didn't I see that S Carolina voted Trump. I said to my wife "Jennifer won't be happy". It looks as if Biden will scrape by; but only just.

    1. Ha! Cro, I'm used to South Carolina and the way things go here. This state ALWAYS goes to the Republican, at least since I've been a voter. My vote doesn't ever count for much.

  7. Like others have said, I fear the unrest and violence that will most likely ensure, no matter the total count of the votes. This horrible man will not go quietly.
I could easily say what do I care, it is neither my country nor do I live there, but of course it is not as simple. We are one world, whether we like it or not, and what happens in one country has repercussions all over.

    1. The Trump goons are already sending in armed "protesters" trying to stop the counting in the last crucial states. There's going to be violence if Biden wins, no doubt about it. It's frightening.

  8. Im so done. I agree and will keep my mouth shut for now. It's been dark.

If i could, I would pick up and leave this racist and ignorant country. And you better believe if Biden wins all hells gates will open.

  9. I agree it's frustrating to wait, but it's not unprecedented. Remember 2000 and Bush/Gore? That was REALLY crazy.

I agree it's astonishing that Trump still has so much support. It's a mystery to me. But all the people who listen to Rush and read Breitbart are functioning and making decisions based on an entirely different set of facts than we are. It's like they've all been slipped a terrible somnambulizing drug.

I think even with a Republican Senate, though, Biden's presence will change the whole tone of the country. He may be stymied in some of his efforts but he'll be civil and presidential and we won't have to hide our embarrassed faces from the rest of the planet anymore.

    1. I remember 2000 and Bush/Gore vividly! And I agree that even with a Republican Senate Biden will change the tone of the country. Just to have a leader who doesn't stay up all night tweeting bullshit will be a huge relief!

  10. Holding up only slightly better than you... an ocean separator helps. Looking much better than it did early in the day yesterday. Your title sums things up perfectly. And 2020 has been a century.

  11. Last night, after a couple of beers, I managed to stop myself saying something that I knew I would regret later, and that was that about 50% of Americans must be either stupid or nasty, but then I realised that they could be both at the same time. I think this applies to many nations, including Brits, so I should only be insulting 50% of the electorate. Oops, I said it.

  12. I fear the Trumpers will find a way to steal this election. All we need right now is Nevada. But it would make me feel so much better if we got even more that 270 Electoral College votes. We live in interesting times.

    1. I have those same fears, too. But we're so close to 270! As you say, we only need Nevada.

  13. COUNT EVERY VOTE! we are at 86% mail-in ballots counted as of 8a this morning in PA.

and WHY THE FUCK did miss lindseybelle, mcturtle, and miss concerned (collins) get re-elected?

  15. I am disappointed with the Senate count as I was sure more would go the other way. However, we are closer and with the two, maybe three moderate Republicans in there, my hope is that they may work better together. If Biden wins, he being a well liked senator and knows how to work across the aisles, there is promise.

  16. I am encouraged by the comment of "Starting Over, Accepting Changes-Maybe".
Biden is very close to 270 electoral votes right now and I do think his experience in government will really help us get back to work.
I was saddened to see that so many would still support the current administration despite the horrible things that have been done.

    1. Doubt if he will still be alive and he certainly will be showing even more vivid signs of dementia by 2024.

    2. Oh yes and with any luck he will be in prison. That is what really has him frightened of losing.

    3. I tend to agree with Claudia. I don't think he'll have the stamina to run again in 4 years. I definitely think he shows signs of dementia, plus you know that anything he accuses the other side of is really a projection of himself.

  18. Jennifer, we are such small cogs in the play. I'm sure there are lawyers lined up on each side to dos-e-do through the moves, to the end the voters really have chosen. Patience while it plays out. And may it never happen again.

  19. I am holding up fine thank you very much and it isn't even my lil' ol' country's election! It's Friday evening over here and still things remain uncertain. However, it would take a miracle for Trump to win now. He's history, a has-been, kapput! Taxi! Taxi for Trump!
