Red sky in the morning

A winter storm is headed our way. From late tonight all the way through Saturday afternoon, our area is supposed to get up to half an inch of ice, followed by a little snow and very, very cold temperatures. It's going to be very dangerous, and school is already canceled for tomorrow.

This is the sunrise I woke up to today:

We have been warned!

  1. I'm hoping for snow and not so much ice.

    Please.

    1. As of 5pm it's starting to get cold and rain is pouring down...soon to change to freezing rain, ice, and snow. It's nasty out there!

  3. Good job that you have all been warned, and that your school is closed tomorrow. I hope you'll be safe, warm and snug in your beautiful house, Jennifer! Time to cook a nice, hot stew or some other comfort food :-)

    1. I made a delicious pot of vegetable soup last weekend and froze some of it for reheating. If we lose power, I have a gas stove so cooking won't be a problem. We have gas logs, too, so we'll be warm. Thanks, Meike!

  4. Oh, how nice to have school cancelled with permission from the universe to stay in bed! (And you get a nice sunrise to boot!)

    1. Well, the kids are supposed to do virtual learning tomorrow (as long as the power and internet access holds out), and I'll be answering the school phones from my house....but yes, I'm glad we don't have to venture out in the mess that's coming!

  5. All we got was some rain and about a half inch of slushy snow. Looks like you might be getting more of the same.

    1. We're supposed to get a lot of ice, and maybe a little snow on top of it. Also, temps will be in the high teens at night, so black ice is a real possibility.

  6. We used to love "snow days" when I worked in a school. Stay home and stay warm and safe!

  8. Great photo through the screen. Very artful! (And great sky, too.) Hope there are no serious problems and you both stay safe and well. Ice storms are awful.

    1. We won't be venturing out in it, so we should be just fine. Gas logs and a gas stove means we'll be warm and can eat well. I'm hoping we don't lose power and internet access, but it wouldn't surprise me if we did.

    1. I'm sure the ice will be beautiful, too! Since I won't be out in it, I can afford to enjoy the sight from my windows tomorrow!
