Calling all book lovers!

Do you love books? Do you love to read books FOR FREE?! If so, then have I got a site for you to explore!

https://archive.org/

If you go to this site and register for a free account, and then click on "books" (at the top left) and then "open library" you can find almost ANYTHING you care to read for FREE! There's a "borrow for one hour" button at the top that you can click to renew as often as you like. It's the easiest thing ever.

The only books I've had trouble finding are those that have been very recently published. Anything back before 2019 or so, though, should be there. And the (almost) best part is that old books that are long out of print are there, too. The selection is vast. If you love to read and have a limited budget for buying books, this site is a game changer! I've been burning through books at an almost unheard of rate since discovering this treasure trove!

Check it out. You can thank me later!

  4. I am thanking you now, and I made a note about the site to visit it in future. Most libraries don't have the older books I read so this could be a treasure.

    1. I know that you're also a fan of Rumer Godden; all of her books (for instance) are there and available to read. :)

  5. It's a bit like the many, many free ebooks that can be found at Amazon's kindle shop - as you know, much of my reading comes from there. Most of these books are old (as old as 1850 or even older), but some of them still make good reading.
I will check out the site in a bit, but I guess the books there are for online reading and not for download to a kindle, right?
Lovely picture of the reading lady with her teacup on the table and her feet on the chair, surrounded by flowers - is that how you read? :-)

    1. I'm not sure if you can download books or not, I always just read on my web browser. The thing about these books being free is that very recent stuff (that's definitely not free to download) is there just like older, out of print titles. I'm currently reading Longbourn by Jo Baker, first published in 2013.

I wish I could read surrounded by flowers!

  6. Thanks Jennifer but being an old fogey I am still hooked on physical books. We have quite a few charity shops in Sheffield and some of them are very discerning about the used books they put on their shelves. Yesterday, as well as buying myself a new book to read, I also bought Phoebe pristine copies of "Cinderella" and "Little Red Riding Hood". She doesn't know those traditional tales at all so it will be fun to read them to her. Nonetheless, I will certainly explore the link you have provided. Thanks.

    1. I like physical books, too. The problem is I have a voracious reading appetite and I can't afford to buy books I want to read very often! Plus, I'd rather only own copies of books that I really like. Favorites. Reading online saves money and space because most books, sadly, don't become favorites.

  7. I signed up and I just downloaded a book I read as a teenager and loved. I had the urge to reread it recently buy couldn't get a copy from my public library. I now have an online copy. Thank you!

  8. Thank you for that site. A treasure trove, indeed. I sent that site to a friend in the UK and she was unable to access it? We're thinking because she's not in the US? It'll be fun perusing for some real goodies. Thank you.

  9. What a gold mine this is!!!! I am late to the party here, but I went for a look this morning. What a collection of audiobooks for someone driving or with vision issues. The radio shows look like great fun.

  11. Wow, what a great tip! I've never heard of this site, but I picked an old book I read many, many years ago and THERE IT WAS! Amazing! (Oh, and I can access the site from the UK, for what it's worth.)
