The administration at my school got the idea to provide all of the teachers and staff with one of these laminated signs to hang outside of their doors/offices to kick off Read Across America week. Dry erase markers can be used to update them with your name and whatever you're reading at the moment to encourage students to read more. Every staff member got one in their mailbox.
I happened to be in the room where the mailboxes are housed when one of my favorite teachers came in, pulled hers out, and smirked. "Job listings" she said. Ha!
I've heard that the people I listed as references for the new job I've applied for have gotten reference checks for me. This morning I decided to email the person I'd be reporting to, to introduce myself and let her know I have a strong interest in meeting with her to discuss the position. Fingers crossed that I'll get an interview, but even if I don't, I've done everything I can. It's out of my hands at this point so all that's left to do is hope for the best!
And to keep reading those job listings.......
Good luck! I hope you get an interview, and the job if it's a good one!
ReplyDeleteYes, I want an interview to decide if it's the job for me. It might not be. I'd like the chance to find out!
DeleteThat email was a smart move.
ReplyDeleteI debated a couple of hours before sending it (since I don't know the woman at all) but then I thought, "What could it possibly hurt?" I'm glad you think it was a good idea!
DeleteI hope it works out well for you!
ReplyDeleteIf not this job, then another soon, I hope!
DeleteYou go, girl! I'm betting on you.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I appreciate your support Ms. Moon!
DeleteMy name is Linda Sue and I am reading "Your Mind". I do hope that the job works out for you , you are way overdue for a change- a happy change!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda Sue! xx
DeleteYou are handling this very professionally. Don't let down.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing my best. Thanks Joanne!
DeleteExciting times to look ahead for a positive change of jobs for you.
ReplyDeleteI hope so.
DeleteThumbs up for the job thing! I so hope it'll work out for you. As you say, you have done everything you can; the rest is not up to you.
ReplyDeleteIf such "currently reading" signs were put up in our office building, I wonder how many people would answer truthfully, and how many would put titles of books they think make them look good.
I am currently reading "A Spoonful of Murder" and enjoying it very much.
I'm currently reading "The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox" and it's...okay. Not quite as good as I expected.
DeleteGood luck with the job.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel!
DeleteI'll be keeping several good thoughts for you.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated!
DeleteWe have just had a book day for kids here. They all had to dress up as a character from their current book. The parents are getting a bit fed up with it. I don't blame them!
ReplyDeleteYesterday was Dr. Seuss' birthday, and lots of younger kids in our district dress up as book characters on that day.
DeleteI just rubbed my lucky charm for you although I honestly don't think you need luck. I think your time has come and you'll be snapped up shortly.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the encouraging words!
DeleteI think you have a very good chance at getting that job and I hope you do and that you love it!
ReplyDeleteI am reading a book by Ann Cleeves that I am enjoying very much as I like mysteries.
Since I discovered the site I mentioned in my last post, I've been reading up a storm lately. I'll bet a lot of Ann Cleeves books are available there.
DeleteI love the little laminated signs! We should look into getting some of those. (Or making our own!) Continued best wishes on the job!
ReplyDeleteMaking those signs would be very easy! And then when they're laminated you can write on them over and over with a dry erase marker!
Deleteput your lipstick on girl...you got this.
ReplyDeleteLipstick is on and ready!
DeleteMy money's on you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the new job. I have found that everywhere I ever worked, except when I owned my own Hallmark Store, and every where I ever taught, there was always someone who just did not want to fit in. I came to the conclusion that I would just ignore them. That is so so so difficult, but it is possible. If you like your job...if you like your salary...maybe try to get along with this person. If you can't do these things, it is time to move on. Schools are always looking for help esp. teachers' aides and teachers...
