Anniversary gift

My new cookware arrived yesterday! It's so shiny and pretty that I took a picture after I finished unpacking everything. It's not a great photo but I'll share it anyway.


Now it's time to actually use them and I'm a bit nervous. Cooking on stainless steel is going to be a learning curve, but I've watched enough YouTube tutorials on the subject that I feel like I can probably do okay. I'm hoping the quality of my cooking goes up with better tools to work with!

I debated about the first meal I wanted to make with them, and this morning I decided: braised beef short ribs in red wine sauce. I went to the butcher shop down the road and bought two pounds of beautiful short ribs. I sure hope I don't screw them up, because the price was eye-watering. :)  I plan to pair them with basmati rice, green beans from the garden, and slices of fresh tomatoes, also from the garden.

I'll report back tomorrow on how everything turns out! Wish me luck!

Your new cookware is fabulous! I can't wait to hear the cooking results.
We buy our beef from a former 4H kid of mine (who is now 40 with 3 kids of his own). We used to buy a 1/2 steer but my husband talked me into quarters. I can't believe the prices in the store. I knew I got a bargain but I almost faint when I see store prices.

What lovely cookingware! Is the little red strawberry on your counter a sugar bowl? I have one which is the actual replica of one my mother had when I was a little girl (REAALLY little like maybe 8 or 9). I got it at an antique shop. I am 84 now and I have a 1940's style kitchen with red accents.

Stainless steel is great cooking! It heats evenly.

Yes! It's a sugar bowl. I got it at Pier 1 Imports years ago.

It's beautiful. I still use my 40+ year old Revere ware; the amount I cook doesn't justify a new set of pans. :)

They look exactly like some I recently inherited from my youngest after he sold his home here. I particularly like the well-fitting lids.

Something that I noticed is that the copper cladding tends to 'bubble up'. I've had mine for 20 years, and they work perfectly fine. I did have to replace the dutch oven. The rivets holding the handles got loose and they can't be tightened. I was afraid to be taking something hot out of the oven and have the handle give way. But they work just fine after all these years. I've been thinking of something new for the new house, but...seems silly to replace what works perfectly well.

I am sure your new cooking set will serve you and Gregg very well, and you'll get used to it in no time.
When Steve and I moved to this place in the autumn of 2003, my sister gave us a set of stainless steel pots and pans as a housewarming gift. I am still using those; my stove is a "Ceran" one (electric).

My stove is gas, and I love it! (It did take some getting used to after years of using an electric stove).

They were delicious, but I should have trimmed some of the fat. Also, it's way too hot for this kind of food right now.

I know you've moved on to newer posts, but just wanted to tell you I love your new cookware set--I admire you Jennifer, I'd love to buy stainless steel but I'm afraid to cook with it! I hope we hear more about this set in the near future :^)
