Things started off pretty good for us last night but then everything went sideways. We had a tasty dinner (store bought lasagna, which sounds bad but tasted fine, plus anything I don't have to cook from scratch is a welcome break for me once in a while) and chocolate pie for dessert. I opened a bottle of champagne and started sipping it while we watched tv. The dogs had been fed and taken for a quick walk before dark, because people around here like to start shooting off fireworks early. They were lounging around, not paying any attention to the booms and cracks outside. George went and got in his bed early.
Then, around 9:30, Gregg said he wanted to lie down for an hour and to wake him up. I waited until around 11:00, and as soon as he got up it was apparent something was wrong. He kept getting a sharp pain in his side whenever he took a deep breath. It may be related to a fall he had on Tuesday night. He had to go service some aquariums, and when he got home Poppy was so excited to see him that she ran straight into his knee and knocked him to the ground. His knee has been swollen and painful since then, and I'm beginning to think he must have pulled some muscles in his chest when he fell. At any rate, it hurt him so much I tried to talk him into going to the emergency room. He refused and went back to bed. I don't know why he insists on being so damn stubborn! It makes me crazy!
This morning, he says it's not as bad, but he's spent the whole day so far lying down, which is really not like him. Besides his painful side and knee, he seems okay otherwise so I'm just keeping an eye on him for now. But I do wish he'd go get checked out.
Men can be so frustrating!

Sure hope he feels better, Jennifer! I've been sick all week with the Flu (even tho I did get the flu shot). It's been a rough week for me and I keep waiting to feel better but so far still Waiting.. :(
YES LORD. I have one that's just as stubborn. He thinks sitting on the couch cures EVERYTHING!
When I saw the blog title, "Men!" I imagined that you were going to start off the new year by singing the praises of men, as in that pop song by The Weather Girls:-
It's raining men! Hallelujah!
It's raining men! Every specimen!
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean
By the way, just like Gregg, I would assign myself to the final category.
HAPPY NEW YEAR JENNIFER! It was nice to meet you again down in The Virgin Islands. You danced like popcorn!
Men, indeed! Whereas I would want to know what's wrong and perhaps get some treatment/help, some (many?) men would rather tough it out. Perhaps they don't want to know what's going on? (fear)
Happy New Year Jennifer!!!
Tell him to go before something not serious, gets serious!!!! Tell him this is no way to start off the year!!!
Everyone knows that sitting and ignoring it is the cure for everything! It's proven.
My advice is to stay away from Doctors (other than Dr Google), and definitely to stay aways from hospitals. But I'm a MAN.
Oh dear! I‘m sorry to read Gregg is not well. Yes, MEN… my Dad was one of those who believed if he stays put on the couch long enough, he‘ll be as good as new. Well, we all know how that went…
Of course resting is good when we‘re not well, but a fall should always be checked out, especially if there is swelling afterwards, and pain with breathing should be enough to convince anyone that it makes sense to have an expert look at it.
Oh, I hope Gregg’s ok. SG would go to the ER at the drop of a hat. I, on the other, am just like Greg. Although SG has been able to train me. And it only took about 35 years. So be patient.
Wow! That dog must have really walloped him! I hope he's feeling better by now. I can't really grumble about MEN, being one myself (and also one who might be inclined to avoid the doctor), but it is frustrating when your partner won't do something you think is necessary -- no matter what it is! Ah, marriage.
I'm sure Greg will be fine. Falls are not good at any age; muscles get pulled and ligaments get strained in so many ways. And while we like to think men are stubborn, I can name several women who are just as bad, my sister for one. Hoping your New Year grows less sore.
I hope Gregg feels better soon!
In this family it's both of us who don't want to go to doctors. Glen actually has less of a problem than I do with it but I'm crazy. Gregg did probably pull a muscle. I've just gone through the same thing after a fall. Still feeling the effects. Give Gregg a day or so and if he's not seeming more like himself, maybe he'll listen to reason a little better.
Ice on the knee? Twenty minutes on; twenty minutes off. Will he at least do that? RICE = Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation
I know how men are. When my ex-idiot broke his leg, he refused to let me take him to urgent care.
Love,
Janie
I hate to say it, but I would probably be a lot like your husband. I am a real 'it will either get better or ot won't' kind of person. I tend to wait a few days before seeking medicL advice.
On the whole we don't like being told what to do and we are supposed to tough it out. On the other hand all docs is quacks and ERs are $$ . I hope the poor devil heals soon regardless.
