Living Water

This photo popped up on my Facebook page today. It was taken several years ago at Lynches River Park (just a few miles down the road from my house) on a nice spring day this time of year. I grew up around rivers; my hometown is near the Big and Little Pee Dee here in South Carolina. This looks like home to me.

As some of you may remember, my husband has a large (300 gallon) vat on our back yard patio. There are small local catfish and bream living in there, and we're growing three native pond plants in it, too. Yesterday we went outside to feed the bream and noticed the first bloom of the season floating on the surface of the water...

All the water around here is teeming with life in May.

  1. Wow! I have always wanted a pond with fish and flowers. We had a small fish pond at our hotel (but no flowers). Sure won't happen now. We thought of putting something on our terrace, but the cats would have way too much fun. I'm sure I'm not the only juvenile who has ever snickered at the idea of Big and Little Pee [Dee] Rivers.

  3. I used to have a garden pond and fountain with water lilies. Those flowers are so nice; especially when the first one opens.

  4. I like your blog colour change!

The river looks pretty but also a bit ominous, I have only seen rivers like that in US television and they usually seem to be full of alligators

  9. Great river picture Jennifer but you say it looks like home to you. Are you an alligator? Maybe only when you're in a bad mood...

  10. Your "vat" sounds wonderful, fish and all! We've talked about installing some kind of water feature in our garden. But since we rent, I'm hesitant to make the investment!
