Memorable

Today is my birthday. As birthdays go, I've had better ones (understatement) but at least I'll never forget the year I turned 45.

I'm not feeling well. Two days ago I woke up with what felt like either bad allergies or the beginning of a cold. I've been sneezing nonstop, my nose is running, I'm getting headaches, my throat is sore first thing in the morning, and I've developed a ticklish cough in my throat. I hope it's allergies; the day before all this started I sat outside most of the day, and the pollen was really bad. I kept getting high pollen alerts on the weather app on my phone that day, so maybe that's the problem. I can't help but be paranoid about coronavirus. At least I'm not running a fever, so that's a positive sign.

Yes, I've had better birthdays. Today has been gray, chilly, and dull. I feel wiped out and tired although I haven't done much of anything. I just took a couple of Benadryl so I'll probably be headed to bed soon.

I hope you're all in hanging in there during this worldwide crisis. Stay safe, be well, and we'll talk soon, okay?

  2. I'm sorry you feel so bad and on your birthday too. I have a lot of allergies and it seems like my throat always hurts the worst in the mornings. Hopefully it is allergies making you sick now but I know that doesn't make you feel any better. Rest and take good care of yourself. Maybe when this is all over you can have a big belated birthday party! Happy Birthday!

  3. It is not fair to be sick on your birthday, in fact, it should be illegal. Get lots of rest and be well quickly, dear friend.

    1. Thank you Anne Marie! I would settle for just seeing a few of my friends rather than a big party. I miss them all so much!

  5. I hope you're soon feeling better. It sounds more like an allergy than Coronavirus, so sleep is probably the best cure. Happy birthday anyway, even if it is on hold for a day or so.

  7. Like Cro has said, it sounds more like an allergy, especially as you do not have a fever. It is hard to tell these days, isn't it; I need to blow my nose all year round and never leave the house without a pack of tissures; also, I occasionally cough but I am not worried as I feel fine (and do not have a fever).
Happy belated birthday, dear friend - I hope you feel much better today, and Gregg is feeling the effects of cabin fever a little less now.

    1. Meike, the card you sent me arrived on my birthday! And it's so pretty! It's on my mantle next to some ceramic rabbits that I put out each spring. Thank you!

  8. Belated birthday greetings Jennifer! It was Shirley's birthday yesterday too! She was sixty one. Normally we go out for a nice meal somewhere but yesterday we ordered chicken souvlaki meals from "The Greedy Greek". It is funny how we are all "monitoring" our own bodies now, alert for the very first signs of The Virus. A slight headache, a little cough, the semblance of a chest pain - it is easy to become paranoid. I am looking forward to communicating with you on the other side when this son-of-a-bitch Virus bastard is history. (Please forgive my vulgarity)

    1. This virus IS a son-of-a-bitch. In fact, I can think of even worse things to call it!! I knew it was Shirley's birthday too and I hope she had a good one! Greek food is one of my favs.

    1. I have allergies pretty much year round, but this has been worse than usual. It might even be a cold, but since I've had no fever and I'm already feeling a bit better, it's probably not the dreaded virus. Thanks Mitchell!

  11. It's a bummer that no sooner does the weather start to improve than the pollen count ramps up and makes life for those of us with allergies no fun. Life in the time of Crudona only ramps up the anxiety of trying to figure out where our symptoms fall along the scale of worry. Sorry your birthday didn't make it into the happy category. Hope you can celebrate under better conditions before too long.

  12. Oh, honey. I wish you had made yourself a cake.
As long as you don't have a fever, don't worry. Or try not to.

    1. I actually bought some cupcakes at the grocery store the night before, but I didn't realize they had whipped topping instead of buttercream. I HATE whipped topping, and the cake part didn't taste like much of anything thanks to my runny/stuffed up nose. I actually considered baking a chocolate cake but decided to wait until 1. I'm feeling better, and 2. I can invite friends over to share it.

  13. Happy birthday! This sure is a birthday you won't forget. Take care of yourself. It sounds like allergies and the good thing is you have no fever. The governor of VA just cancelled school for the rest of the year. This is so incredibly surreal. Take care of yourself.

    1. Our governor canceled school here for the whole month of April. It remains to be seen if we'll go back in May. Thank you Michael!

  14. I hope you had a good birthday. I'll go out on a limb and say your affliction sounds like allergies -- from what I understand COVID doesn't involve runny noses and it's unusual without a fever. Keep us posted, though. Take care of yourself!

  15. Happy Belated Birthday. Feel better soon. This is such a bad time to come down with something like a common cold because we all start to panic. I'm sure it's nothing. Take Care.

  16. Happy belated birthday. Sorry you are feeling so crummy, but I bet it's allergies. Happens to me when we have spring. Which we don't yet.

    1. Spring was super early here this year, but then again, we barely had a winter. I've been grateful that we've had lots of green outside and blooming trees during this corona-crisis....it would have been nearly unbearable in the dead of winter.

  17. Happy belated birthday to a very special lady. I'm sorry you're feeling under the weather right now. Allergy season can be a real beast! Take care and stay safe.

  18. Do you feel better, worse, or the same? Carol has very bad allergies. I was afraid I might have COVID, but my doctor assured me that I'm just coming down with a cold.

    Love,
    Janie
