A sweet little male puppy somebody "dropped off". I guess they think the pet store is a better choice than the pound. He's already following Gregg around and whining for attention (and licking his hands whenever he pets him). Why do puppies have to be so endearing? And just look at his little tan "eyebrows"! Longtime readers will know exactly who that reminds us of.

Jennifer, your comment reminds me of a family story. After Hurricane Donna -- a hugely destructive storm -- struck Florida in 1960, my great grandmother famously said, "I wouldn't name a dog Donna." You've now taken that same idea to the next level. LOL
Well, if it truly is a gift of the universe, it was work, universally. Which means that George will learn to love Snap. (Get it? Ginger. Snap.) Snap is also my epithet of choice when there are little pitchers around. It can be your little epithet too. It works on all levels.
Puppies are adorable but a lot of work. If you think it's a sign then it definitely is!
Haha! No, we have not named him. Nor have we seriously considered adopting him, either. As adorable as he is, as much as I love his little tan eyebrows, as much as I'd LOVE another dog, the timing is off. We can't give him the attention he would need at the moment, George might be miserable, and if we're ever going to get our household budget under control we just can't take on additional expenses!
Well, he's up at a pet store looking adorable so someone is bound to want him soon and then we won't have to worry about what to do.
Of course, at 6am this morning I was charmed when Gregg sent me a text with the little guy's picture....but it would be a bad idea at the moment. I'm trying to put it out of my mind. It breaks my heart to think of George being jealous or unhappy, so who knows if we'll ever be able to get a puppy while we still have him. He's the top dog now for the first time in his life, and I'd hate to spoil it for him.
Snap would be an AWESOME name! Ginger Snap! I love it! :) But unfortunately I doubt it will work out. We'll see, but for a lot of sensible reasons we'd be better off letting someone else adopt this little boy.
Early in the summer would be so much better if we were going to jump in and adopt a puppy or second dog. I'll have 7 or 8 weeks off when the school year ends, long enough to get him or her housebroken and to help George acclimate to the change.

Wow, he sure is a cute puppy. But then again, all puppies are cute. It can be a sign if you want it to be! I am not ready to get another dog just yet. And you are right, they are a big expense! Good luck with the decision. You can't go wrong either way is how I see it.
Thanks, Michael. I'm not sure I'm ready for another dog yet, and it's been a year and a half since we lost Ginger. The expense and the worry about how George would take it are our two biggest concerns.
Your loss of Harper is still so fresh, you probably need plenty of time to heal first. She was such a great dog!

You are obviously an excellent dog owner, putting the wellbeing of the pup and George ahead of any other feelings. You are quite right to be cautious ...and you know what commitment is needed to bring up a puppy properly. I know you will make the right decision....but he is very cute!!
George would still be very much the top dog, teaching the newcomer baby his ropes. Snap would be a perfect name for this sweet puppy, but your reasoning for not wanting him right now is very sound.

You are being very logical about the cons in this situation. I'm not sure I would be able to show such restraint. I've spent my whole life half hoping I'd open my front door and find a basket of kittens, puppies, or even a baby on my doorstep. I hope he finds a fantastic home.
