Too bad about the peach tree! A garden might be a good idea this year. If all these promised deportations happen, look for a sharp rise in produce prices.
The catalog looks like something to savour and sit down with, nicely wrapped in a warm blanket and a cup of tea or coffee ready, as well as a notebook and pen at hand. My sister says she wants to go about her garden in a more planned way next season; so far, she's more or less done things on the spur of the moment. Her place of choice is usually the garden center across the fields not far from her.
I sat down yesterday while dinner was cooking, notebook and pen in hand, just like you said! Catalogs always make me want to grow alllll the things, which of course is impossible.
She's not said yet; this past season was very disappointing, though. First the endless rain in spring and early summer, then the slugs, and what the rain didn't drown and the slugs didn't eat was ultimately smashed by hail.
That cover is gorgeous. I told my sister that I had decided what I wanted for Christmas. Two tractor buckets of cow poop.
We've got untreated wood stacked in the garage. I'm going to ask Tim to build me some raised beds. I want to be Jennifer when I grow up! Or Northsider Dave!
Wow, that's early! I hope you're feeling at least a bit better this week.
ReplyDeleteI am feeling better, thank you.
DeleteI might actually plant a garden this year, now that the peach tree is gone.

DeleteWhat a great catalog cover! I love seed! SG never had the patience.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it pretty?! And all aspects of gardening require patience, but especially seed starting.
DeleteThat catalogue just begs to be dived into. Inspirational!
ReplyDeleteIt's a special issue, too. Next year is the 50th anniversary of Seed Saver's Exchange. I'm the same age as SSE, by the way!
DeleteI was surprised to see a catalog this early.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great cover! I have never had the patience to garden from seeds. I hope that your eczema is better this week.
ReplyDeleteThe prednisone the doctor prescribed has worked its usual magic. My eczema is much better at the moment. Thank you!
DeleteHappy garden-dreaming!
ReplyDeleteA lovely distraction, Jennifer. Glad to hear you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteGood to think ahead! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you manage to grow some healthy catalogues in the year ahead.
ReplyDeleteYou have become a successful gardener.

I used to revel at the oncoming seed catalogs. I don't get any anymore, another thing I miss living where I do.
ReplyDeleteHappy planting x
ReplyDeleteHey! I got this one too! Yesterday! I thought of you.
