Last week I got an email from Little P.'s mom that she knew would make me smile. Little P. had created a Google slides presentation (haha) of his Christmas wish list and shared it with her. She forwarded it to me because she knew I'd get a kick out of it.
Little P.'s Christmas List 2024
- A cell phone ("please please please can I have one?")
- Sneakers (not cheap ones, either)
- An Xbox gift card
- A new football to replace one he lost.
All pretty normal asks from an 11-year-old boy, but it was the last slide that made me laugh out loud.
That boy cracks me up!
"The dog I want is a $650 beagle." The child has definitely done his research. And might I add that every child who pleads for a dog makes promises about the dog's care and training they they do not keep. It's just the way it is.
ReplyDeleteBut this is so cute.
I'd take a kid's promises about pet care with a grain of salt.
Delete"When I leave for college you would still have a buddy for a year or two." Yes, Mom, I'm doing this all for YOU! Hahahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY! Hahaha! That was my favorite part.
DeleteLOL. Only $650? That boy is hilarious. I hope he gets a dog. If mom looks around she can probably get a lot better price on one than $650.
ReplyDeleteMom won't be taking on the responsibility of a dog. It wouldn't be practical at all in their situation. But she sure got a laugh out of her son's slideshow!
DeleteOh dear- beagles are adorable and awful- a beagle was my childhood dog and i loved her beyond beyond ...BUT she was a beagle and could not help herself. Su[er smart and super non conforming . Plus she ate her poos and rolled in everything and escaped for days coming home with worn paw pads to the bone and she was sausage shaped by the time we got her back. Beagles are hunting animals and need acres to run. Health issues are ear infections, skin conditions and impulse control- advise him to wish for a more sane pooch. What a clever lad he is!!
ReplyDeleteHunting dogs really do need lots of room to run and patrol. Beagles really are cute, though.
DeleteHe's working every angle, isn't he? 😄
ReplyDeleteYou know it! Lol.
Delete$650 is a staggering amount of money! He needs a chat about adopting! On the other hand, I hope he gets a dog.
ReplyDeleteI wish he could have a dog. It would be good for him, but not practical under the circumstances.
DeleteThat is so cute the way he wrote about wanting and needing a dog and which breed. Of course he could adopt a beagle at a shelter and there are beagle rescue groups too. He is a bright boy.
ReplyDeleteHe is bright, and also happy and good natured. I hope that holds through the upcoming teen years!
Delete$650!!! But that's adorable that he knows his mom would have a buddy when he goes to college. My daughter begged and begged to adopt a dog when she was a freshman in high school. We already had 3 dogs, but she was such a wonderful daughter that I provided the money and the assistance for the adoption. Of course, she went to college and the dog became mine. Then she went to grad school and the dog was mine more than ever. I loved that dog. Any parent who gets a dog for a child should assume the parent will take on most of the care and it should definitely be an adoption.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I agree with everything you say here. I'm willing to bet there won't be a puppy under the tree at Christmas, unfortunately. He and his mom are gone all day, and then he's involved in sports and other after-school activities. It wouldn't be fair to the dog.
DeleteDefinitely not fair.
DeleteI was just wondering a couple of days ago if you were still in contact with Little P. Several of my dog-walking friends have Beagles; all were rescue dogs, and cost nothing!
ReplyDeleteLittle P. has started middle school with a challenging academic curriculum, so he's been busy. I haven't seen him since our birthday back in March but I talk/email/text with his mom fairly regularly. So yes, I'm still in contact. I love that little guy!
DeleteI agree with Michael....every boy should have a dog, there such good companions. And after such research how can he be denied? I can't imagine life without a dog in the home.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost certain he won't be getting a dog. It's just him and his mom, and she works long hours as a high school guidance counselor. A dog would be alone at home too much for it to be practical.
Delete(Not so) Little P. certainly has thought this through! My best friend from kindergarden days and her sister are Beagle people. My friend lives in Switzerland now, so we don't get to see each other often, but she regularly sends me pictures of her dog. Do they really need to be washed 3 times a week? That seems a bit much!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I wonder what of his wish list will come true for Little P.! And like others here have said, a rescue dog would certainly not cost $650 up front!
Three times a week would be a bit much! And of course if they were getting a dog a rescue would be a far more sensible choice.
DeleteThat is hilarious. Top marks for persuasion.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too!
Delete“Scene” as Little P is so clever and adorable, how can mom resist? (Although I’d teach him about adopting. And that really doesn’t cost that much. $650?!?)
ReplyDeleteHe is clever and adorable! :) A dog would be terribly impractical for him and his mom, so I don't imagine it will happen.
DeleteNow I'm wondering what he will get for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHope you and Gregg are well and have a nice Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
DeleteI should have him come over and play with and walk George and Poppy.
ReplyDeleteThe Xbox gift card is a good option, otherwise, you'll need to get a part-time job. I hope you and Greg have a nice Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. I'll probably get him an Xbox gift card, although it makes me sad that he no longer wants toys.
DeleteWhat do YOU WANT
ReplyDeleteA small vacation where I can relax and be pampered around beautiful scenery...
DeleteI love that he made a Google Slides Christmas list! That's hilarious. Maybe someone should introduce Little P to the concept of a shelter dog? (Or maybe not, if his mom wants to steer clear of the dog thing.) I laughed at the idea of washing a dog three times a week. There's no way in hell I'd do that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my dogs are lucky to get a bath three times a year! (haha not really but you get the idea).
DeleteA good effort, he has really put some thought into this. But two hours daily walking! He's going to do that? Who is he kidding, he's yet to become a teenager. And that beagle is one expensive animal, I'm with Steve for giving a shelter dog a chance. And NO dog needs washing three times a week!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Right on all counts!
