Gregg creates and maintains aquariums for a living at various local businesses, schools, and hospitals. (He also manages the aquarium section of a retail pet store). He doesn't want me to share any photos of our current home aquariums, because he's growing out aquarium plants in them to sell online and so they don't have the kind of design he would want to show off, but he did send me a picture of a tank we had last year, as well as one that he's currently caring for at an elementary school.
These are works of living, underwater art.

I've never really been drawn to indoor aquariums. I did once have an outdoor fish pond and fountain, but it silted-up and I eventually abandoned it. My fish keeping days are over.
ReplyDeleteYou have plenty of other interests to keep you busy!
DeleteMy Dad was an aquarium enthusiast for many, many years. All through my childhood and youth, we had aquariums at home. He planted them, too, but I can not remember them being as abundantly green as yours. Looks really good, and I can imagine a lot of care goes into them!
ReplyDeleteThank you! There is quite a bit of care that goes into them, but I don't do any of it...I get to just enjoy them!
DeleteThank you Jennifer for the mention and for sharing your husband's work, he has produced some lovely green 'living tanks', in fact I am quite green myself now as my own humble aquarium has some way to go to match these ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, John, my husband has been keeping aquariums for nearly 20 years now as a personal hobby, and working with them professionally for 15. Being new to the hobby is a beautiful thing....please share photos as your tank comes along! Gregg is very keen to hear all about it! He helps people just starting out all the time, and it's so rare for anyone to have heard of Amano that he's taken a real interest in you! :)
DeleteI never really thought of aquariums as art but now I consider it - a well-constructed, well-maintained and well-stocked aquarium can often be a very beautiful thing to behold - better than many traditional artefacts we might behold.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words!
