Typical Sunday

I had today off, and there were about a hundred things I should have been doing.

My house is a shameful mess. Between being sick last week, and the Thanksgiving holiday, and all the extra work involved with Black Friday sales when you work in retail, and my husband only having one day off in the past two weeks..........things are in serious, serious need of a real deep clean.

Also, I woke up at 6am and went to the kitchen for a drink, and discovered a hose under the sink (that connects the cold water from the pipe up to the faucet) had sprung a leak and water had drenched everything stored under there and had run out all over the kitchen floor. What fun to step barefoot into a big pool of icy-cold water at the break of dawn! I had to wake up Gregg to help me turn the water shutoff valve, which he was less than thrilled about. So the day wasn't off to the greatest start.

I really should have tried to catch up on some cleaning. Instead, I went to lunch with a friend and then we spent the day watching The Great British Bake Off and talking. She's the one who's expecting a baby in February. It was so nice to see her!

She doesn't care about my messy house because her house is a mess, too. We're both comfortable with that, which is part of why she's such a great friend! I'm really looking forward to the birth of her daughter.

Now I'm off to find some kind of dinner that doesn't involve turkey. I roasted a small one on Thursday for Thanksgiving, and we've eaten turkey sandwiches for three days now. I've had enough for the moment! I'm thinking some Chinese takeout or else a pizza. Then some more tv, some reading, and bed.

I don't suppose the housework will be going anywhere!

  1. You are a very naughty Jennifer! Don't you know that cleanliness is next to godliness? Rather than tackling the whole thing, my suggestion is to earmark exactly one hour for cleaning and tidying. Begin by accepting you won't get it all done and then work like a demon for exactly sixty minutes. You may be surprised how much impact this can have and then you can reward yourself with a drink of your choice.

  2. An alternative to the above might be the voice in your head "Thisere house ain't gonna clean itself!"

But the reason I'm here is your last post, the book review. Actually that's not why I'm here, I like your blog even if I don't often comment. Ms. Smith also did a book you might check out: "Maggie-Now". It's quite different than "Tree", and a lot of her fans don't like it, but it's worth reading.

    cheers,
    Mike

  3. There is a well known saying about women and spotless houses, but I'm not going to repeat it. Let's just say that a messy house is a sign that you have better things to do. We recently had that 'water all over the kitchen floor' business, ours turned out to be a tiny hole in a washing machine pipe; instead of fixing it, we bought a new machine.

    1. Thanks Cro! I figured that seeing a dear friend that I hadn't seen in a month was more important than the housework. I'm off tomorrow (Tuesday) and will get everything back in order then.

  4. Umm... After what Cro said, I hardly dare outing myself as one of those women with a (nearly) spotless flat... but there you go, it's just me, I simply love being in neat and tidy surroundings but don't expect everyone else to enjoy it. Each to their own, I say, and as you and your friend are comfortable with messy houses, then that's fine. I also very, very well understand the need to escape from what can feel like unpleasant duties every now and then, so your lunch, TV and chatting session with your friend was really the best you could do on your day off, after all you've been through recently.

    1. I would dearly love to live in a spotless house. It actually really, really bothers me when mine is a mess and my friend Marla is the only person I would allow to visit when it's not very clean. She has multiple pets and works long hours, just like us, which is part of the reason she is often behind on housework, too. And I did give the bathroom a good cleaning before she came over, at least!

  5. Thank you for your nice comments on my blog. O my God, Your dog Ginger is the spitting image of my lovely dog Freddie who sadly passed away 2 years ago. He was a cross between a German Shepherd and a Manchester Terrier. What is yours?
