Well, this is quite the way to spend a Friday morning. I had to rush Gregg to the emergency room at 7am because he woke up with intense pain in his right side. It was so bad he kept throwing up and dry heaving and could barely walk. We're hoping it's *just* a kidney stone. The doctor thinks that's the most likely thing but they're trying to rule out the appendix.
They've done a scan and we're waiting on the results. He's so quirky when it comes to medication; the shot of morphine they gave him didn't help at all so now they've tried a shot of Dilaudid. He seems to be resting a little easier now thank goodness. They also had to try a second nausea med, since the first one didn't work either.
I wish they could give ME a shot. I have a pounding headache, probably from being scared half to death first thing this morning. Waiting in the ER also brings back many unpleasant memories of the time when he was undergoing cancer treatment. Hopefully this is just something relatively minor and everything will be okay.

Sounds exactly like when I had a kidney stone. Terrifying and horrible. I was five months pregnant with Jessie. Luckily for me, the stone passed in a few hours but I can still feel the psychic scars.
I hope with all of my heart that this IS something relatively minor and that everything will be much, much better soon. I'll be thinking about you and Gregg so let us know when you know what's going on.

Kidney stones are incredibly painful. Hope Gregg feels better soon and you get rid of that headache!

Hey everyone, thank you. We just got home (almost 7 hours later) and everything is ok. They think that he did, indeed, have a kidney stone but that he passes it already. There was blood in his urine and his white blood cells were elevated, but they didn't find anything else wrong. They've sent him home with pain and nausea medication, just in case. It's a relationship to know that nothing appears to be seriously wrong.
Thank you all so much for the support! Now I'm going to take a shower and get a bite to eat....there was no time for either today until now!

So glad to hear that. I had one doctor tell me once that getting into a hot bath when one has a kidney stone is supposedly very helpful with the pain. I hope never to have to find out whether this is true or not.

Hope he's feeling better! A note about morphine. I had it once - did nothing. I asked the nurse when it was going to kick and she made a funny faces as she said "two hours ago."
I took a two hour nap and had a hot shower. I feel a while lot better now. Thanks Mary!

I came back to check on how your hubby is doing and am glad they think the crisis is over and he is home. I hope you both have a peaceful night and get some healing sleep.

So sorry about that ordeal. Glad it was "just" a kidney stone. I had one two years ago and I was home alone and I had to call 911. I couldn't even walk and I was throwing up non-stop. It is not fun. Hope this finds Greg feeling much better.
No fun that.
