Anyone else....?

Anyone else having trouble getting a decent night's sleep lately?

I toss and turn, wake up over and over, and sometimes lie awake at 3 or 4am completely unable to go back to sleep for hours. I'm dreaming a lot and most of my dreams are at least mildly stressful. I don't feel rested when I get up in the morning. This is highly unusual for me. Is it the disruption in my normal daily schedule, stress, or some combination of the two? I don't know, but it's making me unhappy.

How are you sleeping these days?

  1. I tend to use something to help. An allergy pill, melatonin, kratom or Advil PM. Lately I have been taking a nap after working. The chair was uncomfortable, I have switched to a new one today.

  3. It seems to be very common at the moment - even the strange dreams. Its all the stress and uncertainty. I normally sleep very soundly and it only takes me a couple of minutes to drop off but I find it more difficult to drift off now and I do wake more often and then toss & turn. Hopefully we'll go back to normal once life settles down again.
    Take care.

  4. When "all this" first started, I was very exhausted from the endless conference calls (instead of meetings at my various clients' offices), but my mind would still be active at bedtime. I would fall asleep rather soon but then wake up three or four times every night.
Now that things are more settled and the many calls have become my new normal, I sleep much better. Also, knowing that my family and friends are well helps, and that I can still see O.K. on weekends. What contributes most to good sleep for me is getting out and walk every day after work. But you do that, too, so I don't know what other advice I could give you.

  5. I think, all things considered, that I do okay in the sleep department. I used to stress out about my glucose sensor. I have to remember which arm it's on because you can't sleep on them. It's become second nature now, like sleeping with the dogs without rolling over on them. Of course, my old lady bladder kicks in right when the sleep is getting good, so 3:00 a.m. pee break. A little reading and I'm out again. Stress can be a big pain in the behind, Jennifer, and can cause so many health problems. Try to find what works for you, says Dr. Deedles Quack Extraordinaire! Hugs.

  6. For years I have not slept all that well, due to old age and a 3 a.m. pee break, plus my dog also needs to go outside at early a.m. hours. I think stress is the sleep disrupter for you. Most of us have continual low level stress in the background in these difficult days. Sleep well tonight dear Jennifer. Sweet dreams.

  7. We stopped listening to the news and reading about the constant updates on the virus. We go for walks, spend countless hours in the gardens, cooking new recipes and just enjoying what is around us. With that sleeping has improved.

  8. I'm sleeping fine but I generally do. I will tell you that when/if you are desperate, taking a Benadryl will probably get you a good night's sleep. Also, there is a "natural" sleep aid called Midnite which I find relatively effective.

  9. I do not listen to the news, haven't for many years. I turn on the local news that tells me what I need to know about what is going on, always fun news and adoptial sweethearts plus the weather.
Talking heads screaming at each other is beyond me.
I do not sleep well and the last 4 years have been a real trial. I always hope for the best. I listen to stories very low so my mind has to concentrate on the short story not the news. My Agatha Christie's
books on tape work for me,
    Good Luck

  10. I have an underlying health problem that disrupts my sleep pattern, plus I gotta pee every so often. I usually have a glass of wine or I take a melatonin (non-drug pill) for sleep aid. consume more wine!

  11. I have some sleep problems under normal circumstances but I have seen a definite rise in both sleepless nights and extreme nightmares. Even after a busy day working outside on the yard I still don't sleep well. And my dreams have taken a big jump towards frightening circumstances.

I am sorry you are having similar problems.

  12. I had to change the dose of my medication. It's hard to tell, though, because when I'm teaching school the regular way, I have to get up at 5:45. It's dark that time of morning all but two months of the school year. So while I'm not sleeping very well, I think I'm getting more rest than I do when I'm working the regular way.

  13. I haven’t slept well for years. However, the anxiety of what is going on makes many people have restless nights.

  14. I sleep pretty soundly. There is always the mandatory midnight bathroom call, but other wise it's pretty much all through the night.

  15. Like a rock. But remember, I'm an old lady.

  16. You might try a beginner yoga session before bed, plenty on utube, pick one that is relaxing and stretches not difficult. Good luck, stay safe.

  17. Strangely, for an insomniac, I'm sleeping much better these days. I can't imagine why!

  18. I've heard so many people talk about having strange and/or stressful dreams. I think a lot of our anxieties surface when we're in a dream state. I sleep OK, mostly. I usually wake up around 2 a.m. and walk around a bit before going back to bed, but that's fairly normal for me.

  19. I am sleeping very well Jennifer. Thanks for asking. Most nights I get seven to eight hours of solid sleep. Perhaps it is because my conscience is clear. I haven't been mean to any parrots. Could you dust down your banana-coloured bike and get in the habit of riding it for half an hour before night falls? That might help to tire you.

  20. I'm no worse than usual. However, I've had some bizarre lockdown- and virus-related dreams. I rarely remember my dreams and even more rarely are they so clear and current.

  21. I have always had problems sleeping. As I get older, it gets worse. My doctor suggested taking zzzquill, an over the counter mediation which is basically Benadryl. I like it because it is liquid and I can control the dosage. It helps.
